The moon that presides over Studio 54 may be setting at the end of the month, but MGM Grand has already announced what will take over the primo space at the front of the casino. Hakkasan Las Vegas will open in the space in December.

The joint venture from Angel Management Group and Hakkasan Ltd., which has outposts in Miami, London, Dubai, Mumbai and Abu Dabi, brings together a restaurant and nightclub, a first for Hakkasan. The space will be expanded to include an indoor/outdoor experience overlooking the Strip.

MGM Grand already has Shibuya, Pearl and Grand Wok serving Chinese fare. No word on whether the four restaurants will compete for customers or if one will shut down before the end of the year.

Hakkasan serves traditional Cantonese food and earned Michelin stars at its London locations in Hanway Place and Mayfair. A New York version of Hakkasan opens in March while another is planned for Los Angeles.

Angel Management Group runs Wet Republic at the MGM Grand, along with Pure Nightclub and Venus at Caesars Palace, Savile Row and LAX at the Luxor, Social House at Crystals and Dick’s Last Resort at the Excalibur.
