It's a United Nations of restaurant musical chairs at Tivoli Village.
Cantina Laredo's "gourmet" Mexican food restaurant is working hard on construction on the same site of a failed Irish bar concept from the owners of the Brickell Irish Pub in Miami. The pub theme of dart boards and billiard tables now gives way to a Southwestern motif in the first Nevada outing for the nationwide Cantina Laredo chain.
The highlight of the substantial 7,401-square-foot space is 1,170 square-feet of outside seating. The interior comprises two principal areas and a hooked bar with room for 24 patrons with banquettes hugging the walls. A 16-seat private dining area is slotted off to one side.
The interior can accommodate 225 customers, but outside, room for 114 seats may prove the greater attraction. Along the east side of the property, the patio includes fire pits and trees lit with LED lights. The view is of fellow al fresco diners across the way at Greek restaurant, Petra. But they've also added a terraced dining section directly on the Tivoli Village promenade for people watching behind a decorative railing.
Cantina Laredo was first promised as a Tivoli Village tenant in spring 2010 and the Irish pub tenancy was announced in December the same year. While things apparently move very slowly at this location, Cantina Laredo plans to open by mid-November.
