Excalibur moves from Free Bird to French fries. As two restaurants fall, a food court rises to take it's place. Last week, Chapter 11 bankruptcy victims Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer and American Burger Works were closed at Excalibur in a retaliatory move by the resort for late rent payments and a construction debt of more than $1 million owed to the property.
But fear not. Excalibur's 12,000-square-foot remodel of its second food court will soon emerge, branded with a new name. Sword & Spoon hearkens back to the vaguely medieval original theme of the resort, complete with an heraldic S&S logo and cartooned European castle.
The $1.8 million overhaul is based around six new additions: Pick Up Stix, Popeyes, Cinnabon, Schlotzsky's, Hot Dog On A Stick and Tropical Smoothie Cafe.
In August, Jason Shkorupa, vice president food and beverage at the Luxor and Excalibur, projected an October opening date. The new chain restaurants are currently hiring for general and managerial positions.
