Two new restaurants were shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District while two more remained closed following reinspections and two more came awfully darn close to shut down.
The bar at Geisha Steakhouse at 3751 E. Desert Inn Road was shut down after a routine inspection on Oct. 19. Inspectors found that the restaurant didn't dispose of waster or sewage water in a proper manner, calling for the immediate closure for an imminent health hazard.
Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant at 252 Convention Center Drive remained closed after a reinspection on Oct. 19. Inspectors found "gross unsanitary occurrences or conditions including pest infestation," calling for the immediate closure for an imminent health hazard. The restaurant was closed on Oct. 17 with 53 demerits.
Sushi on Tropicana at 2625 E. Tropicana Ave. was closed by the SNHD after a reinspection on Oct. 19 found "gross unsanitary occurrences or conditions including pest infestation," calling for the immediate closure for an imminent health hazard.
Big Mama's & Papa's Pizzeria at 1370 E. Flamingo Road remained closed after a reinspection on Oct. 19 found 23 demerits. The restaurant was shut down on Oct. 16 with 49 demerits.
Tipico's Centro America at 1945 N. Nellis Blvd. landed 39 demerits and a C grade after a routine inspection on Oct. 17. Inspectors found spoiled food, potentially hazardous food improperly cooled and food unprotected from potential contamination during storage among the violations.
El Burrito Restaurant at 8508 Del Webb Blvd. landed 36 demerits and a C grade after a routine inspection on Dec. 18. Inspectors found spoiled food, potentially hazardous food improperly cooled and food unprotected from potential contamination during storage among the violations.
The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits.
