Stage one of Excalibur's $4 million food court expansion dubbed Castle Walk tentatively opened this weekend. Amidst plywood erected for later updates, unfinished flooring and vendors still training staff, the largest food court on the Strip unveiled its newest tenants.
Stripping the food court of any of Excalibur's mock-medieval trappings and leaving a nondescript design theme reminiscent of a regional airport, the visual focal point of the upgrade is Big Chill, serving beer and cocktails. Food court perennials, Pick Up Stix, Popeyes, Cinnabon, Hot Dog On A Stick and Tropical Smoothie Cafe fill out 12,000-square-foot project. When added to the existing fast-food area, the resort has created 25,000 square feet of quickie options on the second floor.
Future shuffles to the original food court include a Schlotzsky's replacing the Quizno's and Yogurtland taking the place of Coldstone Creamery. Pizza Hut, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, Popcornopolis, McDonald's and Krispy Kreme live to serve another day. This smaller upgrade is scheduled to be finished in time for New Year's Day.
