The poppies may be missing, but the den is coming into focus. Poppy Den, the swift switcheroo replacement for Petra Greek Taverna at Tivoli Village is racing to meet its Dec. 31 opening night. Chef Angelo Sosa's Asian gastro-pub concept will feature a rustic interior, relying on the plentiful windows to cast a natural light into the space. The former Top Chef contestant is also owner of two New York restaurants, Social Eatz and Añejo Tequileria.
Outside, a barren cement patio of heat lamps, umbrellas and stacked chairs awaits arrival of a promised "Poppy Garden" including herbs and the restaurant's namesake.
The Tivoli Village restaurant expansion includes the freshly opened Mexican restaurant Cantina Laredo, directly across from Sosa's space. Steps away, Echo & Rig, a proposed steakhouse and butcher shop from Los Angeles chef Sam Marvin, shows no sign of construction progress since announcing back in August.
