Michael Morton's Project M restaurant steps closer to completion. The Las Vegas City Council has approved a special use permit for construction for his next creation at 106 Sixth St. It marks the N9NE Steakhouse, Nove Italiano and Ghostbar creator's first incursion into the Downtown district.

Attorney Thomas Amick representing Morton caused momentary confusion in the chambers when his description of the venture as "Spanish style" and "tapas", was misheard as "topless." The tapas description is a variation from the previously stated Mexican focus of the menu.

When pressed by a council member for an opening date, Amcik estimated the middle of 2013. A March opening had been suggested back in October. Construction has already begun and the formerly vacant building has been completely gutted.

The 3,320-square-foot Mexican restaurant, still tentatively labeled Project M, will highlight live music acts four nights a week. Inside can accommodate 100 and in a current Downtown restaurant trend, a 320-square-foot enclosed patio is planned to seat guests on Sixth Street.
