A few new tidbits came out about the coming casual American bistro, Citizens Kitchen & Bar, taking over the former Red, White & Blue space at Mandalay Bay. While Brian Massie, The Light Group's executive chef, is behind the menu, now comes word the restaurant will be open 24 hours a day.

The other tidbit — the restaurant plans to open in late January.

Already Munge Leung, the design firm behind 1 OAK Nightclub at the Mirage and Lily Bar & Lounge at the Bellagio, is creating the new look for the 6,787-square-foot space with room inside for 175, including 12 at the bar. Plans call for antique mirrors, pewter, muted metals and new banquettes with distinctive buttons and stitching. The oyster bar is being removed although a take-out counter remains. The eight-stool seating area by the front door will include a grab-and-go counter.

Already a portion of the new menu includes Maryland Blue crab cakes, Southern fried chicken and bacon-wrapped meatloaf. A loaded beer menu will also be featured behind the bar.

Still no word on the fate of China Grill, which will become a new restaurant headed by Akira Back of Yellowtail at the Bellagio.
