The saying goes that the way to a man’s heart is through is stomach. For Edmund Wong, he found it was the way to his future wife’s heart. The executive chef of Bellagio wanted to showcase his cooking skills on his first date with Shannon Crozier. He opted to go for a simple pasta dish put together in his tiny kitchen with the hopes of making a big impression. Well, simple for a chef.
The couple met while working together at Chuckie Cheese in Vancouver in 1989, but didn’t start dating until 2004. “My wife and I started off as really great friends in high school,” Wong says. “Once we started working together, we developed an attraction for one another and the rest is history. Best day of my life when she said, ‘Yes.’”
Wong whipped up a lemon linguine with Dungeness crab, tossed in some shrimp, snow peas and tarragon butter, and served it with fresh baked bread and a frisee salad with spring vegetables and balsamic. The Hong Kong-born chef who earned his culinary chops in Vancouver ended up marrying Crozier three years later.
