First Sammy DeMarco headed over to Atlantic City to open Sammy D’s at Harrah’s in January. Now the chef behind First Food & Bar at the Palazzo teamed up with former Bellagio and Wynn Las Vegas executive chef Grant MacPherson to go Down Under. On April 18, they open a gastropub called The Merrywell in Melbourne, Australia, at the Crown, a casino Down Under.
The British pub plans to serve breakfast and lunch Thursdays through Sundays and dinner seven nights a week. The restaurant plans to serve up Brit-grub faves such as “piggies in a blanket” with house-made dipping sauces, cool burgers, Sammy D’s famous chicken lollipops with blue cheese fondue and a roll-call of re-interpreted classics and old-school faves. Think seafood Shepherd’s pie, Scotch eggs and wood-fired Jack Daniel’s pork chops.
The casual restaurant overlooks Melbourne’s Yarra River with a second-floor outdoor heated terrace dubbed the Top of The Merrywell.
