Fifty-four demerits. That’s what shut down Esmeralda’s Cafe on April 6 when the Southern Nevada Health District visited during a routine inspection.
While the sheer number of violations would have shut down the cafe, a lack of potable or hot water called for an immediate shut down. Other violations included a lack of hand washing, spoiled or contaminated food and more.
Also closed, Amanecer Salvadoreno (1524 S. Main St.) with 49 demerits. Again, a lack of potable or hot water called for the shutdown, along with a lack of hand washing, spoiled or contaminated food and more.
The SNHD shuts down restaurants with more than 40 demerits.
