In other health inspection news, it seems just barely passing an inspection by the Southern Nevada Health District is now de rigeuer for restaurants across Vegas. In the past week, six restaurants avoided shut downs by the skin of their teeth.

Some highlights of the tasty discoveries by health inspectors:

El Azteca, 4518 E. Charleston Blvd., received 40 demerits during a routine inspection May 17. Some violations included food not cooled properly and improper temperatures for stored or displayed foods.

Piccadilly Fremont, 322 Fremont St., landed 39 demerits during a routine inspection on May 16. The fine folks at this pizza restaurant apparently weren’t washing their hands and had no hot and cold running water. Inspectors also found contaminated food. Delish!

Salza Grill House, 4440 E. Tropicana Ave., nabbed 40 demerits during a routine inspection on May 16. There they found spoiled or contaminated food, food stored at improper temps and more.

Thai Original BBQ & Restaurant, 2680 S. Maryland Pkwy., landed 38 demerits during a routine inspection on May 15. Inspectors discovered no hot and cold running water, food stored at improper temperatures and more.

Over on the UNLV campus, the 3 PM Cafe, 4680 S. Maryland Pkwy., earned 40 demerits during a routine inspection on May 14. Inspectors found that employees weren’t washing their hands, food was spoiled or contaminated and food wasn’t stored at proper temperatures.

That doesn’t include the 40 demerits Heart Attack Grill racked up on May 16 during a routine inspection.

Forty-one demerits gets you closed by the SNHD.
