Here it is, The Bourbon Room, the swanky new ode to Rock of Ages, the musical set to open in December at the Venetian in the room The Blue Man Group vacates in October. Decor from the era snakes around the bar with plenty of gray banquettes for seating and tables shaped like guitar picks to spread out drinks.
Three signs sending out their neon sex beckon you to walk in this bar, and if the view inside isn’t enough, look out on the casino floor. A bar sporting an ode to Rock of Ages sits to the left.
A veejay donning ’80s garb rocks out the hair-band music of the era, while servers in leather rocker attire and big, big hair break out in dance on the metal stage or the dance floor with a disco ball spinning overhead. On the screens, the music videos that made up the era flash “Here I Go Again” from Whitesnake, "Nothin' But a Good Time" from Poison or “Cat Scratch Fever” from Ted Nugent. Stone washed denim and Aqua Net hair up to here, indeed. On the walls, art from Rock of Ages.
Behind the bar, 28 varieties of bourbon line up, including two made especially for the Venetian. Look for Manhattans made the basic way with Maker’s Mark, or go swankier with a Perfect Date, a date-infused Woodford Reserve romanticized with a sweet vermouth, bitters and brandied cherry juice. Boilerrockers pair up beers with shots of Wild Turkey, Venetian Single Barrel Reserve or Crown Royal. Sample a variety with the Flight of Ages, three or four shots of that sweet, sweet Kentucky bourbon. Or just go all ’80s and pick up one of six varieties of Bartles & Jaymes.
The bar is open daily at 11 a.m., closing at 2 a.m. weeknights and 4 a.m. on weekends.
