Over the past three weeks, construction workers have been busy, busy, busy dismantling the former Studio 54 space at the MGM Grand to make way for Hakkasan, the massive five-story restaurant and nightclub that will take up the front corner of the resort at Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.

Construction for the five-level nightclub and restaurant is already diverting traffic on Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard with a massive crane stretched out above the former Studio 54 space. By night, blasts from welders light up the interior while a retaining wall hides the construction within. Already the gutted remains of Studio 54 show their skeletal remains.

The massive club will take up 75,000 square feet filled with the restaurant and lounge as well as a new nightclub component, something unique to Las Vegas. Inside Hakkasan plans to have a similar Chinoiserie decor to the flagship, Michelin-starred London location.

The restaurant/nightclub/lounge plans to make its debut in time for New Year’s Eve.

Hakkasan also plans to expand to San Francisco and Los Angeles over the next 12 months.
