Finally the food and wine celebration of the summer. For the month of August, the Venetian and Palazzo’s three-month-long Carnevale kicks off its final month of the festival with Cibo-Vino Month starting tomorrow. Yes, an entire month of food with chef demonstrations, wine tastings and dining experiences.
Here’s a look at the events going on throughout the month:
The 5 O’Clock Hour
Every Tuesday in August, guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary wine tasting in the Palazzo Waterfall & Atrium Gardens. The one-hour tasting opportunity will feature wines from Banfi, St. Michelle Wines Estates, Folio and Joe Bastianich and will be hosted by sommeliers. The events take place every Tuesday in August, beginning Aug. 7, from 5 to 6 p.m.
Carnevale Chef Demo Wednesdays
Chefs from the Venetian and the Palazzo show off their expertise in cheese, fruit, sugar and ice carving with complimentary demonstrations from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Palazzo Waterfall & Atrium Gardens
Samba Roll Thursdays
SushiSamba executive sushi chef John Um to learn the art of sushi making and noteworthy techniques of sashimi cutting. A complimentary tasting of the palate-pleasing sushi rolls will take place, paired with sake tastings to enhance the vibrant flavors. The event takes place every Thursday in August, beginning Aug. 2, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Palazzo Waterfall & Atrium Gardens.
Solaia Dinner
On Aug. 3, Antinori Family wine ambassador Niccolo Maltinti will host the Solaia Dinner, featuring a five-course menu and pairing created by executive chef Olivier Dubreuil of the Venetian and the Palazzo. The menu includes warm white asparagus with prosciutto di parma, roasted quail breast and “confit” legs and braised apple veal rack for $250 per person on Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. The dinner is at the Cibo-Vino Room at the Palazzo, located on the casino floor near Carnevino.
Antinori Wine Tasting
Samples the Antinori Family wines such as the Antinori Tignanello 2007 and Muffato Della Sala Umbria among others for $25 per person on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palazzo Waterfall & Atrium Gardens.
Oyster Shooting with Chef Tom Moloney
Aquaknox executive chef Tom Maloney hosts an “oyster shooting” event paired with Pinot Grigio wines for $35 per person on Friday, Aug. 10, 5 to 7 p.m. at his restaurant in the Venetian.
Summer Sizzle Series Heats Up St. Mark’s Square
Tao and Lavo host chef demos in St. Mark’s Square on Friday, Aug. 10 and 17 with Tao executive chef Michael Armstrong, Lavo executive chef Massimiliano Campanari and corporate executive sous chef Marc Marrone. Guests can enjoy watching the chefs create Tao’s trio of sashimi with wasabi salsa and Lavo’s burrata wrapped in prosciutto, basil and dark cherry balsamic while sampling small bites. Guests will also receive a voucher for a complimentary cocktail with purchase of an entrée at either Tao or Lavo. The event takes place Friday, Aug. 10 and 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. in St. Mark’s Square in the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian.
Vino Hop with Winemaker Joe Bastianich
Mario Batali’s partner Joe Bastianich will be meeting with fans and signing copies of his New York Times best-selling memoir Restaurant Man while guests sip wines and dine at food stations at the Palazzo Waterfall & Atrium Gardens for $25 per person. Restaurant Man will be available for purchase at Batali and Bastianich restaurants. The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Palazzo Waterfall & Atrium Gardens.
Up Close and Personal, A Dinner with Joe Bastianich
Celebrity restaurateur and vineyard owner Joe Bastianich hosts a special wine dinner at Carnevino, one of the three restaurant Bastianich owns with Mario Batali at the Venetian and the Palazzo. The five-course wine pairing dinner will feature Lobster Cotto with Horseradish Crema and Radish paired with Bastianich “Vespa Bianco” 2009, Beef Agnolotti with Sweet Onion Ragu paired with La Mozza “I Perazzi” Morellino di Scansanso 2009 among others and is priced at $200, all inclusive. The dinner takes place on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m.
Meet and Greet with Emeril Lagasse
Meet Emeril Lagasse himself at his namesake sports bar Lagasse’s Stadium at the Palazzo. Lagasse will sign autographs and take photos with fans on Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Vino Hop with Michael Mondavi
Renowned winemaker Michael Mondavi, the founder of Folio Fine Wine Partners, will feature several top-shelf wines including a 2008 Palacios Remondo la Montesa, 2007 Isabel Mondavi Pinot Noir and 2010 Oberon Cabernet among others. Folio is an importer and producer of wines from Italy, Spain, Austria and New Zealand. The event takes place Friday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palazzo Waterfall & Atrium Gardens.
Pasta Making Class with Luciano Pellegrini
James Beard Award winning chef Luciano Pellegrini hosts a complimentary pasta making class at Valentino at the Venetian. Guests will learn the secrets of creating fresh pasta while sipping on Prosecco on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Carnival of Cuisine
Head over to the Venetian Ballroom on Saturday, Aug. 25, from noon to 4 p.m. for the Carnival of Cuisine featuring 15 eateries from the Venetian and Palazzo. Participating restaurants include: B&B Ristorante, Bouchon, Café Presse, Carnevino, Delmonico Steakhouse, Grand Lux Café, Lagasse's Stadium, Lavo, Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro, Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, Pinot Brasserie, Public House, SushiSamba, Sweet Surrender, Table 10, Tao, Valentino, Sweet Surrender, Zine Noodles Dim Sum and the Venetian and Palazzo Catering Department. General admission tickets are $60 while VIP tickets, which include an early entry at noon and a special gift, are $85. A portion of every ticket price will benefit Three Square Food Bank, Southern Nevada's food bank.
