Late yesterday afternoon, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that China Grill announced that 350 people would be laid off the two restaurants along with Red Square.
Last week, MGM Resorts announced that the Delano was taking over THEhotel at Mandalay Bay and The Light Group plans to open two new restaurants from Brian Massie, the former chef behind the now-shuttered Union at Aria, and Akira Back, who runs Yellowtail at the Bellagio.
“In a statement, Terry Zarikian, China Grill Management's director of product development, said: ‘In connection with last week's announcement of the rebranding of The Hotel at Mandalay Bay to (The) Delano, Morgans Hotel Group, or its affiliates, has acquired the leases for China Grill, Red Square and Red, White and Blue. The restaurants will continue to be operated under those brands until November 18,’” the RJ reports.
Noted: Employees at China Grill’s Delano restaurants in Miami Beach kept their jobs when The Light Group nabbed China Grill leases at that property.
