The Southern Nevada Health District is back at it, closing down two restaurants in the past five days. First up, Mama Maria's at 6055 E. Lake Mead Blvd., which received 47 demerits during a routine inspection on Aug. 24. Inspectors found spoiled food, employees not properly washing their hands and more.
Sicily's Pizza at 3585 S. Durango Drive also found itself shut down on Aug. 27 when a routine inspection unveiled 51 demerits. Inspectors found that the restaurant didn't have hot and cold running water from an approved source, employees weren't washing their hands properly and more during the inspection.
SNHD routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits.
