Now comes word that the street named for chef Andre Rochat is getting a name change now that Andre's is no longer downtown. The one-block Chef Andre Rochat Place will now be named in honor for Stanley W. Cooper, a special deputy marshal who was shot and killed when a man entered the lobby of the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse and opened fire with a shotgun in January 2010.
"It's not really that important to me," Rochat says. "They're going to replace it with the name of a guy that got shot at the federal building and I think that's more important.
"There's a priority for everything and that's not really a priority for me," he says.
The street became Andre Rochat Place on the 25th anniversary of Andre's in 2005. The location closed at the end of 2008. Rochat still has Andre's at the Monte Carlo and Alize at the Palms.
DW Bistro plans to take over the space across from the federal courthouse with a second location.
