SNHD Shuts Down Morels, Kaya; Another Comes Close

Southern Nevada Health District inspectors shut down Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro at the Palazzo on Sept. 25 after a routine inspection uncovered 41 demerits.

The SNHD found spoiled food, cross contamination with waste water, food from unapproved sources that lacked labels and staff improperly washing their hands.

Previous inspections dating back to 2008 earned A grades.

Kaya Restaurant at 4355 Spring Mountain Road was shut down by SNHD inspectors on Sept. 25 with 43 demerits at the restaurant and 47 demerits at the sushi bar. Violations included staff improperly washing their hands and spoiled food.

Albo Pizza Restaurant at 1510 Las Vegas Blvd. S. landed 39 demerits, two away from shut down, after a routine inspection on Sept. 24. Violations included food that wasn't stored at the proper temperature and staff improperly washing their hands.

SNHD routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits.
