Monte's Pizza Restaurant at 1306 W. Craig Road in North Las Vegas was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District on Dec. 28 for an imminent health hazard. Health inspectors found sewage or liquid waste was not disposed of in an approved manner, calling for the immediate closure of the restaurant.
Previous inspections dating back to 2010 resulted in A grades. During the Dec. 28 inspection, SHND handed out 33 demerits.
The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
On a side note, the Las Vegas Review-Journal discontinued running its weekly Restaurant Report beginning Dec. 19, saying, "Because of space constraints, lack of timeliness of information and the accessibility of records online, the Las Vegas Review-Journal will no longer run a listing of Southern Nevada Health District restaurant inspections."
