It's official. Shawn McClain, the chef behind Sage at Aria, is opening a pizzeria. The restaurant, called FIVE50, plans to open this spring in the former Skybox Sports Bar & Grill in the same resort.
"I would say it's 50% pizza and 50% bar," McClain told the Los Angeles Times. "We wanted to capture the soul of an East Coast, New York pizzeria and combine it with a fresh, edgy, soulful bar."
McClain says the name comes from what he deems the perfect temperature for baking pizza, 550 degrees. He plans to send his forager from Sage out to find seasonal produce for the pizzas. The restaurant will also emphasize craft beers.
Architect David Rockwell is behind the design of the space, which will be a mix between a traditional New York pizza parlor and modern style.
