The surprise switcheroo at Town Square that ousted Meatball Spot and replaced it with Sugar Factory will all be forgotten when TV star and frequent Las Vegas visitor Mario Lopez hosts the grand opening on Dec. 6. They've planned for a 4.30 p.m. debut. The host of Extra and former Saved by the Bell star will have had some practice after he hosts the opening of the chain's Hollywood Boulevard location on Nov. 13 with former Spice Girl Mel B.
At Town Square, the 7,000-square-foot brasserie will feature an upgraded menu and introduce a custom line of ice cream cones. Naturally a large retail store is included in the project. This is the fourth Las Vegas property for the rapidly growing company, whose expansion plans now include the Middle East.
For those keeping score, chef Carla Pellegrino left her culinary figurehead role in Meatball Spot and is now considering a move to downtown Las Vegas and opening a new concept in Miami. Meatball Spot has relocated to the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, with a rumored minority partnership with songstress Britney Spears. She'll be performing 48 shows over the next two years at the PH Live theater, next door to the new Meatball Spot's front door. They are expected to open in time for the pop diva's first concert on Dec. 27.
