Frequent rumors hint that MGM Grand's recently shuttered Mexican restaurant Diego will retain the former name and concept, but dramatically freshen up the place. A promised announcement of a new culinary direction has not yet been scheduled. Signage in front of the restaurant explains the spot is "closed for renovations."

More concrete evidence is presented in construction permits that pointedly refer to project as "Diego Remodel." The MGM Grand has has publicly allocated $690,788 to the work, which will revamp the entrance, dining room, bar and add new finishes throughout the space. In all, 6,948 square feet of a total 10,084 square feet will receive the upgrade.

In September, MGM Grand predicted the work would be finished by January 2014.
