Such a sad story coming out about Kerry Simon, the chef behind Simon Restaurant & Lounge at Palms Place, KGB: Kerry's Gourmet Burgers at Harrah's Las Vegas and other restaurants around the world. Robin Leach reports Simon "is battling an aggressive form of Parkinson's disease."
"Kerry is fighting its far more pronounced disorder known as MSA — multiple system atrophy, a rare degenerative neurological illness that affects multiple parts of the body, causing slowness of movement, muscle rigidity and poor balance."
Simon will be honored tomorrow night at the Best of Silver State Awards, and guests will likely see him in a wheelchair, perhaps a shock to those who know him as an avid runner.
Simon has felt something was amiss for five years and only 18 months ago went to the Cleveland Clinic for help. Initially, he was diagnosed with possible Parkinson's. Medications helped, but this aggressive form of Parkinson's rapidly progressed.
Do read Leach's entire article on Simon, who says he's been hiding his condition until now.
