Rumors point to the resort formerly known as Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon and then Gansevoort before the brand was booted for alleged mafia ties (see all those gory details here) being named The Cromwell.

While owner Caesars Entertainment wouldn't confirm the rumor, the name has been trademarked for "providing entertainment services in the nature of casino and gaming activities; casino services; conducting and providing facilities for special events featuring casino and gaming contests."

While Oliver Cromwell led the Ironsides in 17th Century England, sources say it's named for Townsend Cromwell's discovery of "an eastward-flowing subsurface current that extends the length of the equator in the Pacific Ocean." Sure, why not?

Giada De Laurentiis will have her first stand-alone restaurant at the resort and Victor Drai is planning an $85 million rooftop nightclub and dayclub.
