In the shadow of the Arts District's Newport Lofts condo tower, a property developer is planning to add something missing from the Downtown scene. A regular movie theater.

Sharet Holdings II LLC bought the almost one acre lot of land in 2011 for $810,000. The company's boss, Sharet Davidyan, is now proposing to convert the empty lot into the three-story, 52,900-square-foot Eclipse Movie Theater. With the vertical space on hand, he also wants to include a separate tavern and restaurant into the mix. The project will begin the approval process in January.

The previous, closest movie theater in this section of town was the Galaxy Neonopolis 14 Theater on Fremont Street, before its closure in 2009. Any chances of it being revived were destroyed by Kelly Murphy's demolition of the facility for his failed 2013 Krave nightclub venture.
