For anyone thinking of bringing tens of thousands to town for a food festival, Luxor has the place for you. The Luxor Festival Grounds, a generous description for 15.3 acres of open parking lot across Las Vegas Boulevard from the resort, wants to become a more regular host for entertainment. Previous huge outdoor music events such as the 48 Hours Festival and the 2012 Vans Warped Tour have already taken advantage of the acreage.
Parent company Circus Circus Enterprises Inc. is seeking Planning Commission approval to develop the site, which can easily hold between 14,000 and 64,000 people and sees the land hosting "concerts, musical festivals, food festivals, sports events and other outdoor special events."
While most structures will be temporary, new shrubbery, fences, walls and light poles will be added. The grounds will be restricted to a maximum of 16 events per year and each event to a maximum of four days. Currently there are no plans for permanent food or beverage facilities on the property.
