Scintillating rumors coming out of the Venetian today where John Curtas at Eating Las Vegas says the first shoe in the major switcheroos over there has dropped.
He reports that Piero Selvaggio's Valentino plans to close in June to make way for a new restaurant from Daniel Boulud. Valentino plans to find new space in Vegas, he says.
Last month, Curtas guessed that Boulud was among the four new restaurants coming to the Venetian and Palazzo. Boulud was at the Venetian and Palazzo in December, where he told Eater Vegas, "he had no plans to open a new restaurant at the Venetian and Palazzo." He does have a relationship with parent company Sands Corp., the parent company of the Venetian and Palazzo, with his DB Bistro Moderne at the Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore.
Boulud shuttered his namesake restaurant Daniel Boulud Brasserie at Wynn Las Vegas in 2010.
Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich are rumored to be bringing two restaurants to the resorts, while a high-end sushi chef is allegedly coming as well. Batali and Bastianich already have three restaurants at the resorts, including Carnevino and B&B Ristorante.
In other Venetian and Palazzo rumors comes word that two additional other restaurants may soon be closing. An informed source says that Rattlecan and First Food & Bar from chef to the chefs Sammy DeMarco are also rumored to be on the chopping block. Rattlecan just opened in the former Lutece space in November, while First now sits in the former future home of the St. Regis tower of the Venetian. A publicist for DeMarco did not respond to an email requesting confirmation.
