3 More Restaurants Shut Down by SNHD

Three other restaurants found themselves shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District in the past week.

SNHD inspectors shut down La Costa Grill Restaurant at 2600 E. Flamingo Road on Feb. 27 after a re-inspection unveiled 39 demerits. Inspectors found spoiled food, staff not washing their hands properly, food unprotected from contamination and more. The restaurant initially received a B grade during a routine inspection on Nov. 14, 2012, and a C grade during a re-inspection on Jan. 4.

The Buffet at Asia Restaurant at 4090 S. Eastern Ave. was shut down Feb. 26 when inspectors four 50 demerits during a routine inspection. SNHD inspectors found spoiled food, no hot and cold running water from an approved source and potentially hazardous foods improperly cooled and stored at improper temperatures among the violations. The restaurant was previously closed by SNHD in August 2011 with 45 demerits.

El Santaneco at 4632 S. Maryland Pkwy. was shut down by SNHD after a re-inspection found 44 demerits. Inspectors found food unprotected from potential contamination by chemicals and ineffective pest control measures among the violations. The restaurant was shut down in January 2012 after a re-inspection found 43 demerits. Four days later it reopened with an A grade and 8 demerits.

The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
