Tonight could be the night Masaharu Morimoto announces his new restaurant coming to the Mirage. In town for UNLVino, the Iron Chef is expected to tell guests that he will take over the Japonais space.

Gossip columnist Robin Leach tweeted, "Don't know timeline or details yet of Iron Chef Morimoto's venue @Mirage but it will take place of current Japonais restaurant."

A Mirage insider also tells Eater Vegas that the Morimoto concept could expand to the Stack Restaurant & Bar space as well.

UPDATE: A rep with Stack says the restaurant is not closing.

Tonight the chef accepts the Dom Perignon Excellence Award from UNLVino during the Sake Fever event at the Mirage.

If and when Morimoto lands in Vegas, it would mark his seventh restaurant worldwide.

Already the Mirage has announced that Tom Colicchio will open Heritage Steak in the former Kokomo's space in July. The Top Chef judge's newest meat-centric restaurant will feature 250 seats that will focus on "meats prepared entirely over an open flame — from wood-burning ovens to charcoal grills," according to a press release.
