SNHD Investigates Food Illnesses at Buca di Beppo

Apparently the Southern Nevada Health District is looking into a report that several teens became ill after eating at Buca di Beppo at the Excalibur for prom.

My News 3 writes up this awkward report: "Several dozen students from southwest career and technical academy ate there on prom night which was Saturday and we have confirmed with the Clark County School District the health district has been at the school to interview the students there."

SNHD reports the restaurant has an A grade across the board with inspections on April 25, April 26 and May 14.

Buca di Beppo responds in a statement:

Buca di Beppo places the utmost importance on the cleanliness, quality and high standards of food preparation in our restaurants. The kitchen at Buca di Beppo Excalibur has held a consistent A-rating from the Southern Nevada Health District ever since the restaurant opened. On Saturday, May 11 a high school group had their prom dinner with us and we have been advised that several became ill.

Two visits from Southern Nevada Health District have taken place since Saturday. On Monday, May 13, Buca di Beppo received a routine inspection from SNHD and earned an A-rating. On Tuesday, May 14, in response to calls from parents of the teenagers, the Southern Nevada Health District returned for another rigorous inspection, and again awarded Buca di Beppo an A-grade. Health and safety in our restaurants is of paramount importance and we stand by our record of cleanliness, high standards of food preparation and our consistent -- and current -- A-rating from the SNHD.

The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
