Here's a look at some of the inspirations for Rick Moonen's coming Rx Boiler Room, the more casual concept taking over the second floor of RM Seafood at Mandalay Place. RM Seafood closes after service on Friday night to make way for the new gastropub concept replete with odes to Jules Verne and the steampunk era of science fiction.
Based on architectural renderings from Cleo Design, the restaurant will feature seating for 88 in the dining room. The main focus will be on the bar, where 17 can belly up, another 36 can dine and 18 can schmooze in the lounge
A line of windows will give guests a view of the restaurant when they ride up the escalators from Mandalay Bay. The entrance moves slightly to give diners a means into the space through the bar lounge.
The rooms will be bathed in warm colors with leather seating, chalkboard walls and a hammered metallic ceiling. Pub-style tables sit in the apothecary-style lounge while booth dining will feature glass art, sculptures and velvet drapes.
In a nod to comfort food, Moonen plans to offer up dishes on small and large plates, each meant for sharing.
Moonen plans to open the space by the end of June.
