SNHD Shuts Down LVRJ's Pick of the Week; Pests at LVH

The Las Vegas Review-Journal's July 5 Dining Pick of the Week was shut down July 9 following a re-inspection by the Southern Nevada Health District.

Giuseppe's Bar & Grille at 2630 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson received 23 demerits for issues related to "spoiled, contaminated or adulterated" food and food being protected from potential contamination or from chemicals during storage and preparation. Other problems included labeling and storage of toxic items and the availability of hand-washing facilities. This was the first series of inspections for this recently opened location.

The Italian-flavored sports bar and restaurant is heavy on tributes to Ohio and Cleveland teams. A second Giuseppe's operates at 6065 S. Durango Drive.

On the same day, the SNHD shut down LVH Bakery at the former Las Vegas Hilton resort. The immediate closure was earned for "gross unsanitary occurrences or conditions including pest infestation," classed as an "Imminent Health Hazard." The routine inspection also earned 12 demerits for issues including "effective pest control" and adequate hand washing facilities.

LVH Bakery had received an A grade in all its previous inspections dating back to 2004.

The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
