Don't think of FIVE50 Pizza Bar from Shawn McClain as just another pizza joint. This menu features dandies such as a warm ricotta, pork rinds and marcona almonds for snacks, a charcuterie with meats from Olympic Provisions in Oregon, and small plates including shaved pork belly porchetta, housemade meatballs and a to-die-for marinated octopus crostini.
McClain's second restaurant at Aria, of course, has pizza with crusts that combine the best of New York and Sicilian crusts and a red sauce that has a hint of red wine. Look for signature 16-inch pies such as the Gotham with pepperoni, sausage, salami, mozzarella and grana padano; the truffle with potato (yes!), truffle salami, bechamel, parmesan, thyme and truffles; and the North Beach with clams, smoked mozzarella, sweet onions and oregano.
Even a select group of pastas show up, including a must-order wild mushroom ravioli with braised veal breast.
Do save room for desserts such as the milk chocolate-lavender custard and smoked apricot crostata that are worth the calories. The place even has ice cream sandwiches made with pizelle cookies.
Here now, the entire menu from FIVE50. Enjoy.
