Everything You Need To Know About Rx Boiler Room

Rick Moonen's Rx Boiler Room steams toward a July 5 opening date with a firm hand on the tiller. The casual revamp of RM Seafood with a "steampunk" design aesthetic has a menu in place and an archway to a venture heralding the "alchemy of food and drink" at Mandalay Place.

Evoking the surroundings and imaginative of Victorian and Edwardian writers, futurists and scientists, the Boiler Room designers still managed to include a "No Parking Sign" and a Florida state license plate among the more time-appropriate cogs, wheels, brass and iron at the restaurant's front entrance.

Inside, a wall of laboratory glassware, test tubes and cylinders has been created to suggest the air of playful experimentation Moonen wishes to create with his new dishes and cocktails.

Despite Moonen's name dropping of writers H.G. Wells, Jules Verne and inventor Thomas Edison, no items on the food menu are named in tribute to any of the creators that inspired the "steampunk" genre. Nor do any names or descriptions of the dishes allude, explain or complement the historical surroundings. However, lead bartender Nathan Greene will serve up cocktails from beakers, flasks and barrels.
