Vegas again has a horse in the race known at Top Chef: New Orleans. Shirley Chung, the former executive chef at José Andrés' China Poblano at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, will be one of 18 contestants on the show when it airs on Oct. 2.
Chung has worked with Thomas Keller, Guy Savoy and Mario Batali, but came to love Mexican cuisine and combining it with Chinese fare with her work at China Poblano, a restaurant nominated for a James Beard Foundation award for Best New Restaurant in 2011.
Back in June, Emeril Lagasse, who returns to Top Chef as a judge, confided that a female chef from Vegas was on the show and "she does really well."
