9 Ways to Eat and Drink Your Way Through Mexican Independence Day

Mexican Independence Day is Monday, and that means a long weekend of celebrating the holiday of our neighbors down south. Whether you choose to tip back a margarita, relax with a Mexican brunch or go all out with a José Andrés after-party for the Enrique Iglesias concert, there's something out there for you. Here now, nine ways to eat and drink your way through Mexican Independence Day.

1. China Poblano
Where: Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. S.
What: Head over to China Poblano after the Enrique Iglesias concert at the Boulevard Pool on Sunday night for the after-party starting at 11 p.m. Tickets are $100. The restaurant also has complimentary tastings tonight through Sunday from 8:30 to 10 p.m.  Featured selections include Tequila Partida on Friday, Del Maguey Mezcal  on Saturday and Tequila Milagro on Sunday.

2. The Chandelier
Where: Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. S.
What: Grito Mexicano, the cry of patriotism, sounds off at midnight on Sunday with a ceremonial ringing of the bell and a toast at the resort's three-story bar. Mariachis and dancers will surround The Chandelier and take the stage for an official performance.

3. La Comida
Where: 11 Sixth St.
What: La Comida hosts its first-ever weekend brunch from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday with Chiles en Nogada, Chilaquiles and huevos Benedict with jalapeño Hollandaise. The festive, indoor-outdoor party will continue into the evening with entertainment by Mariachi Mexico, one of Las Vegas' top mariachi. Drink specials will be served all day Saturday and Monday, and will include $5 Cazadores Margaritas, $15 El Jimador Tequila Flights complete with sangrita made with fresh tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce and lime and the traditional Mexican Tequila Bandera which is made to resemble the Mexican Flag and is comprised of three shots: lime juice, tequila blanco and sangrita.

4. Rhumbar

What: Look for drink specials on Monday. Land two-for-one tequila cocktail specials including the Spicy Lover, made with Cuervo Platino tequila, English cucumber, Mexican cilantro, lime juice, sweet agave nectar and a dash of spicy Tabasco pepper sauce; and the Pineapple Chipotle Margarita, made with Ambhar tequila, Dutch Orange Curaçao, fresh lime juice, pineapple juice and Monin pineapple chipotle syrup, spiced up with a dash of Tabasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce. 5. SHe by Morton's

What: Celebrate Mexican Independence Day tonight through Monday night with a prix fixe menu for $75. Order a chopped salad or crab and lobster guacamole for the first course; marinated skirt steak, free-range chicken chop or pan-seared Baquetta for the second course; and SHe churros or flan with berries for dessert.

7. Hussong's Cantina & Taqueria
Where: Mandalay Place, 3930 Las Vegas Blvd. S.
What: Executive chef Noe Alcala serves up a special off-the-menu dish only available tonight through Monday. The seafood-stuffed chile relleno features a roasted poblano pepper stuffed with shrimp, mahi-mahi, scallops, pico de gallo, roasted tomato sauce and Mexican cheese, all topped with ancho chile sour cream and a Mexican slaw with jalapeño mint vinaigrette. Also land $20 Indio beer buckets. All weekend, the restaurant features Rock n' Roll Mariachi band, performing everything from Latin serenades to classic rock hits upon request.

What: The Fifth Annual Margarita Festival takes place Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. with live entertainment, tequila tastings and food. Look for 20 bars to serve up margartitas and guests can vote for their favorite. Wristbands are $25 for tastings.
