2 Restaurants Shuttered After SNHD Inspections

BJ's Buffet at 4954 W. Tropicana Ave. was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a routine inspection revealed an imminent health hazard on Sept. 13.

While the restaurant received 33 demerits for violations including spoiled food and staff not properly washing their hands, a pest infestation ended up shutting down the buffet.

BJ's Buffet has a checkered past with SNHD, earning an alphabet of grades since 2009 including 39 demerits last August that was upgraded to an A four days later.

Also shut down, Vegas Best Pizza at 384 E. Tropicana Ave. after a re-inspection on Sept. 17. SNHD inspectors returned Sept. 17 to re-inspect the restaurant after an Aug. 27 34-demerit inspection.

Instead of a clean restaurant, SNHD inspectors gave the restaurant 25 demerits for violations such as food unprotected from contamination, ineffective pest control measures and more. Two previous inspections in 2011 and 2012 earned the restaurant A grades.

The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
