At least one mystery surrounding Britney Spears and the Planet Hollywood Resort is solved. And she couldn't have picked a more fortuitous site to jump back into the celebrity restaurant game.
In August, the pop diva staked a minority ownership in the Meatball Spot coming to the Miracle Mile Shops. The upmarket casual meatball and pizza joint overseen by Charissa Davidovici abruptly switcherooed at Town Square, losing celebrity chef Carla Pellegrino as a figurehead, replacing the space with a forthcoming Sugar Factory and moving the first of a desired chain of Meatball Spots right into the heart of the south Strip.

Meatball Spot is confirmed to take over unit 505, replacing a former Ramon Molvizar fragrance store, necessitating a trickier build-out when the restaurant begins construction. Currently, behind nondescript plywood, only a demolition work order is in place for the project.
Spears has been exhaustively rumored to be signed to an extensive residency at PH Live theater and their box office ticket windows are inches from the Meatball Spot front door. The concert hall has a potential capacity of 7,000 fans, all of whom will need to walk directly past the restaurant before and after a gig. A detail clearly not lost on the management team.
A countdown clock on the official Britney Spears Website clicks toward a secret Sept. 17 announcement. Not coincidentally, the same date she makes an appearance on ABC News' Good Morning America. Rumors swirling around the event suggest announcements of a new single, full length CD, details of the Vegas residency or a combination of all of them. Should the Las Vegas concerts materialize, they would commence in December at the earliest.
