Joining Banger Brewing on Fremont Street and the proposed Hop Nuts Brewery a few blocks away, Luelling Orchard Brewing Company plans to complete a downtown brew pub triumvirate, taking over a former Arts District upholstery store.
Located directly across the street from The Arts Factory, the 7,508-square-foot tavern and microbrewery is the brainchild of Aaron Luelling, creator of award wining brews, with the twist of each creation named after a woman. Ava is the Russian Imperial Stout, Julie a Belgian Tripple and with pin-up themed packaging and logo, Bettie is the name of the Belgian Dubble.
The mini-surge of interest in brew pubs is the result of a March 2013 city ordinance revision that slashed the fees for buying the necessary operating license from $75,000 to a semi-annual fee of $500 or 1 percent of gross income, whichever is higher.
