The Denny's at Casino Royale shutters for a year-long makeover that will include demolition of the restaurant and a brand-new 22,500-square-foot space with a second-floor balcony.

Plans, as revealed by Eater Vegas last February, call for a $14 million Denny's and Walgreens combination, delayed in part by the economy and the city's zoning commission's desire to expand the already narrow sidewalk in front of Casino Royale. The low roller casino is part of the Best Western chain of hotels.

Who knew that this particular Denny's was the highest volume for the brand, serving 746,000 guests in 2013? Last year, that location had pre-tax operating income between $2.8 million and $2.9 million, according to a press release.

The restaurant, one of the first Denny's to open in 1966, plans to have an updated look and additional seating.
