Dougie J's Cafe will soft debut by the end of the month, leading to a very appropriate grand opening celebration on Veteran's Day. Located on Las Vegas Boulevard, a couple of blocks north of the famed Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, the cafe, burger and sandwich shop is the creation of Suni Chabrow.
The cafe is named in tribute to her son Douglas J. Green, who died in 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, from injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade.
Chabrow had been sending Dougie her homemade toffee during his service, a skill she later expanded into Whoa!Foods, her company distributing sweet treats around the city. The Dougie J's Cafe project will take a more savory turn, offering burgers, sandwiches and desserts for breakfast and lunch. Downtown delivery is being planned.
The industrial style interior will be accented with murals and uniforms in shadow boxes.
Chabrow also runs the Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation, a non-profit venture that sends care packages to those who serve.
