We've enlisted comedians, some based here and others who spend their time on the road and come through Vegas, to share their recommendations on great places to dine in Sin City for a feature dubbed Comedian Confidential.
"Well, isn't that SPE-CIAL?!" Comedian Dana Carvey is going to pump...you up when he plays the Orleans Showroom tonight and tomorrow night. The man behind such famous Saturday Night Live characters as Church Lady, Garth of Wayne’s World and musclehead Hans (now appearing in State Farm commercials with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers), brings his spot-on impersonations of President George H.W. Bush, Johnny Carson, Ross Perot and Regis Philbin along with a cavalcade of material. Here he tells Eater Vegas what draws him to the city, who approaches him while he’s dining out and the first thing that shocked him in Las Vegas.
How often do you get to Las Vegas?
I get to Vegas about twice a year. I never come to town unless Manilow is appearing.
Do you remember your first trip to Vegas?
My first trip to Vegas I remember being in awe of all the lights once the sun went down. I loved watching the lights, the sweet beautiful lights. I’m a pretty simple person.
Do people approach you while you’re dining out?
No one approaches me when I’m dining accept the waiter. Vegasians have seen it all. Jones... Newton...Top.
What about nightlife? Do you ever go out after a show to unwind?
After my show I enjoy seeing the Fab Four. They are brilliant and I love hearing The Beatles live.
What was the first thing that shocked you in Las Vegas?
The first thing that shocked me about Vegas was the Stratosphere. It was so tall, so fucking high up. Wow.
What can we expect from your show?
My show will be extraordinary, edgy, can’t really explain it.
