Three Ways Vegas Restaurants Are Helping Feed the Hungry at Thanksgiving

Three charities benefited from the generosity of Las Vegas restaurants.

Being down on your luck around the holidays can make them tough, but three local restaurants are trying to at least provide a healthy meal for Thanksgiving.

The über-restaurateur couple Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla team up with their son Cole to help Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada serve 1,500 meals on Thanksgiving. Catholic Charities executive chef Juan Penate and his staff of 20 arrive at 2 a.m. to begin preparing:
•    600 pounds of turkey
•    750 pounds of mashed potatoes
•    350 pounds of corn bread stuffing
•    22 gallons of giblet gravy
•    700 pounds of butternut squash
•    22 gallons of homemade cranberry sauce
•    1,500 homemade biscuits
•    1,500 butter cups
•    1,500 individual pumpkin crème brulee
•    1,500 pints of juice

More than 150 volunteers are expected to serve approximately 1,500 meals

Underprivileged children and families from local non-profit organizations including After-School All-Stars Las Vegas, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and The Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada will receive a complimentary Thanksgiving dinner at the 24th annual Turkey Gobble at Piero’s Italian Cuisine on Thanksgiving.

Piero’s chefs and employees will prepare approximately 400 pounds of turkey, 1,100 pounds of potatoes, 2,000 rolls, 300 pies and more for these 1,200 special guests, many who would otherwise not receive a warm Thanksgiving meal.

And already, Todd English P.U.B. helped spread holiday cheer with Communities In Schools of Nevada students at Cambeiro Elementary School. The team from Todd English P.U.B. donated 25 Thanksgiving baskets to the families of students.

Todd English P.U.B. employees and site coordinators handed out the baskets filled with ingredients to make mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casseroles and more.
