One of the shock closures of 2014, the shuttered Las Vegas Blvd. outpost of Tacos El Gordo will be long missed by late night revelers and aficionados of quality, but street vendor priced Mexican food.

Closed in late November after rumored issues between the landlord and restaurant operators, a new local favorite might be filling the now empty corner space. An Eater Vegas tipster relays locals Taco y Taco are in talks to drop into the strip mall, located within walking distance of Wynn Las Vegas.

Taco y Taco already operates at 3430 E. Tropicana Ave. and debuted their second Las Vegas location at 9470 S. Eastern Ave. back in April, serving their own quality spin on traditional street eats. Neither location matches Tacos El Gordo's legendary super late night opening hours.

Tacos El Gordo is not letting the closure get them down. They still operate at 1724 E. Charleston Blvd. and plan to open a new venture at 3260 Losee Road in North Las Vegas sometime next year. They also run two original outposts in California where the family owned and operated company is based.
