Chimichanga mania hits Harrah's Laughlin, with Guy Fieri's eagerly anticipated El Burro Borracho Mexican restaurant in soft open mode, ahead of a personal visit by the spiky styled sensation to christen the joint.
Replacing the shuttered Baja Blue space, the 4,915-square-foot restaurant officially offers "guests a taste of Fieri’s signature cuisine, featuring bold flavors and unique twists on traditional Mexican dishes...The restaurant's extensive drink menu features signature margaritas and a variety of draft and craft beers."
Local blog Laughlin Buzz has dominated the coverage of Fieri's imminent arrival and have already dined at the Burro, sampling carne asada fajitas, carnitas burrito and a "drunk donkey banana sopapilla." They gave the place a rave review.
The bloggers also tried the habanero salsa, but warned, "never order this!! It is $3.00 and you might as well pour gasoline and light a match this was hot i almost was in tears and i like hot but this was Satan!"
El Burro Borracho can be translated as drunk donkey or drunk burro or drunk ass and Fieri's Knuckle Sandwich company has totally embraced the gimmick, right down to their new logo.
With an interior described as similar in style to Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen & Bar at The Linq Hotel & Casino, the menu is also said to be priced more line with Las Vegas Strip dining than the usual Laughlin casino options.
Menu items include tortas, enchiladas, borracho platters, grilled street corn, "Trash Can Nachos," the signature "Guy's Guacamole" and keeping with the trend, "Drunken Fish Tacos."
One dish that will raise some eyebrows is the $30 "El Burro Gordo Challenge" or "The Fat Donkey." It is created with shredded chicken, shredded beef, carnitas, borracho sauce, salsa verde, queso casero, salsa molcajete, pico de gallo, cilanto rice, borracho beans, Cotija cheese, cream and chile-lime dusted chicharrónes. The exact size of this item is yet to be revealed.
The drinks menu includes "Brain Freeze" frozen libations, jalapeno flavored margaritas and the reprise of Fieri's "Crazy Hagar" cocktail tribute to "The Red Rocker," Sammy Hagar.
Laughlin has not yet announced El Burro Borracho is officially open, nor have they revealed the opening hours. Local rumor has Fieri visiting the restaurant on Jan. 4 to launch the locale, but no further details have been revealed.
