American Burger Works, a.k.a ABX, has shuttered for the second time at Excalibur, but this time for good. Briefly closed in September 2012 as a result of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, ABX featured a halfhearted "industrial vibe" and a menu offering Belgium French fries to pair with 15 dipping sauces.
Taking over the space will be a 4,681-square foot Johnny Rockets, who have wasted no time in utilizing some their estimated $400,00 construction budget. The faux diner-style restaurant operates 10 locations in the Las Vegas area, including their most recent arrival at the Mandalay Bay food court.
American Burger Works was a creation of Drive This! Entertainment who also oversaw the equally bankrupted and shuttered Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer, which backed on this restaurant footprint. That space has remained dormant since 2012. Drive This! currently runs Tacos & Tequila, Rhumbar and Casa Fuente on the Strip. No timetable for the burger switcheroo debut has been announced by Excalibur, nor a mention of the closing.
