All remnants of the shuttered Hamada of Japan restaurant on Flamingo are readying to be swept away. When it shuttered almost a year ago, the distinctive building seemed a perfect place for a new concept to swoop in. But that plot of land is part of the nearby Hughes Center commercial district and the owners have decided to demolish the restaurant, add some retail and they are thinking of building two smaller restaurants on this footprint. Once it is razed to the ground the developers will have a better idea.
The Hamada brand dates back to 1987 and once ran locations at the Rio, Stratosphere, MGM Grand and Luxor. They still operate their last holdout at the Flamingo Las Vegas on the Strip.
