Another Downtown Las Vegas resort avoided a strike today when El Cortez negotiated a tentative agreement with the Culinary and Bartenders Unions' negotiating committee. The new five-year contract is retroactive to June 1, 2013, when the last contract expired. The settlement follows the Golden Nugget, Fremont and Main Street Station deals.
That narrows the list of Downtown resorts going on strike to six remaining. At 5 a.m. on June 1, restaurant workers, hotel housekeepers, cocktail servers, bartenders and other members of the unions at unsettled casinos will walk off their jobs and start 24/7 picketing of D Las Vegas, Four Queens, Binion's, The Plaza, Las Vegas Club and Golden Gate. Nearly 1,200 union workers remain without a contract in Downtown Las Vegas.
The union still doesn't have a negotiating meeting planned with the Golden Gate, although all other resorts plan to talk before the Sunday deadline.
