Johnny Rockets Sparks Upgrades at Excalibur

Johnny Rockets, the faux retro diner restaurant, has debuted at Excalibur, with a welcome, daily, 24-hour opening schedule. The 4,681-square-foot venture replaces American Burger Works with a more expansive menu and much more visitor friendly operating hours. This will be the 10th location in Las Vegas for the Americana-inspired Johnny Rockets franchise. They can already be found a quick tram ride away at the Mandalay Bay food court.

American Burger Works was run by Drive This! Entertainment who also oversaw the long shuttered Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer, which backed on this restaurant footprint. That barbecue joint remains empty and sources have confirmed to Eater Vegas that particular location was once intended as a property run steakhouse before the Lynyrd Skynyrd project was pitched to the resort.

The changeover is part of an ongoing series of upgrades for the neglected property. Changes are peppered around the casino floor, near the check-in desk and pedestrian entrance. Improvements to the pedestrian sky-bridge linking Excalibur and Luxor are about to begin and an estimated $200,000 construction budget has been allocated to replace lights, booths, table and chairs as part of an upgrade of Dick's Last Resort, the rowdy beer, barbecue and bad behavior venue.

Last year Excalibur finished rolling out its $4 million food court renovation on the upper level.
